Outfit of the Day: Brunch & Stuff

I was elated when my younger cousin Carly & her two friends adventured into NYC to visit me yesterday! We had the most amazing time walking around my neighborhood, the West Village and all around the surrounding areas. I may be biased, but my cousin and her friends are really amazing girls. Myself being 22 and the girls being 18 & 19, they are slightly younger than me yet I would totally hang with them all the time (that is if they want to hang with me) . Carly and her crew are smart, funny, put together and so happy. They radiate happiness! What a joy it was to bring them around the city and show them new things. Take a look below at some of the best moments of our day!

Myself “B” left with Carly in the Meatpacking district. What I’m rocking: Vest: Urban Outfitters. Tank: Brandy Melville. Pants: Nike. Shoes: Converse. Bag: Marc Jacobs. Bracelets: Breedazzled. And a hippy headband from IDK where!

We wandered around the Village and spotted a super cute garden looking type restaurant that caught our attention named Olio e Piu. It was the perfect setting to have a nice little brunch with the girls and have a Vemma tasting sorrei….

Cheers! The girls got to try Vemma Renew, which promotes healthy hair, skin and nails. Basically beauty in a bottle that tastes like OJ, how amazing ? You also see them clinking the Verve ParTea which is an “insanely healthy energy tea” and they absolutely loved it! Another drink we sipped at brunch was the Verve Zero Sugar which was perfect pre Manhattan tour considering how much walking we did and how much caffeine it contains (80 mg of natural caffeine) Woop!

After brunch, we took our Breedazzled selves and wandered over to Chelsea Market AKA one of my favorite spots in Manhattan.

20140613-133445.jpg

There we explored the tiny, unique shops inside of the Market, which is actually a converted factory! The Morroccan shop is definitely a favorite place of mine. I visually spent about ten grand on textiles and silver platters. I really cannot afford my eyes….

20140613-133543.jpg

So many pretty things I can’t take it! I love the Hamsa, hand of god. I have a pretty silver Hamsa hanging over my doorway which was a gift & it brings a sense of protection to my apartment.

20140613-133613.jpg

Chelsea market also has “Artists and Fleas” where you can find some of the most amazing pieces of jewelry, vintage clothing, artwork and really cool shit you do not need!

20140613-133709.jpg

I was digging these graphic tees, how typical of myself. I had to refrain from buying the cutest half denim half tulle dress, I can always just make my own version !

20140613-133743.jpg10456245_871535689527470_401841847_n-1

Love the way the colorful art looks against the brick wall!

20140613-133754.jpg

Although we did not get any sweets, we did some sweet window shopping!

20140613-133814.jpg20140613-133835.jpg

Once we got through Chelsea Market, we headed back to my apartment for some mid afternoon Verve MoJoe, which happens to be my favorite Verve drink. Since trying the Mojoe, a coffee drink that is non dairy & made with coconut cream, I no longer want the other coffee I was drinking. It is THAT good!

20140613-133903.jpg

After coffee, I had to go to Algebra class, EW! So the girls headed down to Soho! But not before playing with the puppy, Monte. Monte is Marissa’s 10 week old boxer who came for an NYC visit this week!

Monte sticking his tongue out at Carly because he wants to taste her Verve Remix!

Visit me again soon girls, love ya!

Outfit Of The Day || November 1st

On November 1st I woke up with rainbow colored hair, a massive headache and the previous nights makeup smeared all over my face (even though I washed my face before bed). However, I somehow managed to pull a decent look together for a spur of the moment trip to Manhattan for, well, food.

20131111-084043.jpg

Look from ratchet head to toe:  “Turband” from Urban Outfitters, shop their hair accessories here. Rayban Aviator Sunglasses. Dark Green Top by Free People, notice the uneven hemline. Faux Fur vest in a dark brown mocha type color. Jeans by Blank NYC from revolveclothing.com. Boots by Jeffrey Campbell from Nordstrom. Handbag by Gabs. Wrist full of Breedazzled bracelets.

Why this look worked : Simple pieces (plain jeans, solid color top, solid color vest) with stand out accessories (leopard print bag, flashy bracelets). When in doubt, wear a very simple outfit with cool accessories, my life moto.

Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show With The Lovely Lisa Versacio

Kind of hidden between Fashion Avenue & the Avenue of Americas ( 7th & 6th respectively but the names sound more enticing than the numbers) on the 18th street in Manhattan at about 12:02 pm today I met up Lisa Versacio, my lovely friend, mentor and fashion mom for an afternoon full of old clothes & new news. If you have not heard of this show — or Lisa Versacio — then you should probably Google them both because in the world of fashion they are a big fucking deal. Lisa caught me up on her next fashion girl project, the previous being Brocade Home, a company she created to fill a need in the market for pretty furniture. I lamely use the word pretty because in my eyes it is just that. My room is decorated with many of her pieces and I feel like when I try to describe the style of the furniture, I contradict myself. It is feminine but not girly, ornate but not fancy, modern but not cold. Lisa created a feminine focused brand of very pretty furniture and then decided it was time to get back to her roots — fashion.

This was my second year attending the show with Lisa, and when I received her invite via text just the other day, my heart kinda stopped. I had just been reminiscing about last years show when I found some pictures on my laptop. Of course there are those annoying signs with the slash going through the camera around the whole GINORMOUS room but do you honestly think that stopped me from snapping away? What can I say, I like pretty pictures and ||  I . will . snap . as . I .  please . || Anyways, the show is made up of about 90 vintage clothing vendors all there to sell past decades in clothing form to fashion crack addicts like myself. Let’s just say my father is lucky I did not have his credit card on hand because my brain, made up of Chanel instead of cells, would have told me to spend “Trump Money” on clothing to create for myself a closet full of history lessons, particularly the events of the 60’s and 70’s. My father of course would not agree that buying vintage clothing is the best way to educate myself on history and would then suggest a trip to Barnes and Noble to buy – perhaps – a history textbook. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Barnes, but history books are always so boring and wordy. I would rather wear history than read about it which is exactly what I imagine myself doing once I earn some “Trump Money” of my own. Or at least some money in general. I admired the clothing, jewelry and shoes vendor by vendor, and at the same time I was daydreaming about coming to this show in ten years and being able to finally educate myself on history. And by educate I mean purchase lots & lots of pretty things. Someone once said “Out with the old and in with the new” but I really like the old, when it comes to clothing at least, because when I purchase new clothing I do not feel it has a soul. Everything about “New Fashion” from the industry itself to the trends and designs are different from how it was back then. There is something about a rainbow sequined shift dress from the 20’s that feels so alive. Vintage clothing, unlike anything new, has a soul & I am a chick that is always soul searching, one gold Chanel chain at a time…

|| Left: My Outfit Of The Day which I took in my room in my Brocade Home mirror. How precious is it? Perfect for my innumerable amounts of mirror selfies. Right: Mirror selfie at last years Vintage clothing show. Yes, I purposely wore the same handbag, my vintage inspired, cherry red Marc Jacobs bag. It is only appropriate to look a little “vintagy” at a vintage show dontcha think ?!  I Also wore a vintage Versace inspired necklace from Topshop, A faux leather jacket from Topshop, Black jeggings from Forever 21, and a denim top by Blank NYC from revolveclothing.com. Last year, I wore a leopard free people jacket and an American Apparel rosette top, you cannot really see it in the picture but even if I did not have a picture I would remember because I am really weird like that. ||

Ariel Pietrobono II Intern for Bib + Tuck

Ariel Pietrobono, a good friend of mine who I like to call “Ari F Baby” because she was once obsessed with Lil Wayne ( I don’t think she is obsessed with him anymore but then again who is? )  is a really cool person. Not only does she attend Pace University and has been a Manhattan resident for the past couple of years, but she is also an intern for Bib + Tuck. She introduced me to Bib + Tuck, a website that describes themselves as “…A highly currated community of shoppable personal closets” and I actually fell in love with it. First of all, the website  has really pretty fashion girl pictures on it, and I LOVE pretty pictures. Also, the whole concept, like Ariel, is r e a l l y cool. You can sell unwanted clothing and accessories in exchange for currency to be used to buy other peoples items. When you sign up, they give you 15 bucks to start with. I already have 25 bucks because they gave me 10 more bucks for posting, or as they call it “bibbing” my first item, a small Fendi handbag that I never use. Each buck on their website equals a dollar, and you can buy bucks to use on people’s items. A cool feature is that you can “follow” people, so I followed Ariel and some random girls who seemed super trendy and had things for sale that I liked. Anyways, you should probably definitely check it out >>>>    Bib & Tuck   >>>> Also, because Ariel is so cool I sent her a mini interview via email asking her about her internship & her style. Check it out!

II    Click here to shop Ariel’s closet. She has many cute items for sale!  Click here to shop my closet.   II

BT:  First of all, thank you so much for introducing me to the hidden gem of a website, Bib + Tuck. How is your internship going ? What are some of your daily tasks ?

AP: Awwww of course! I knew it would be right up your alley especially with Breedazzled. It’s a great concept, and I think if more girls found out about it and used it, it would really take off. I really have been enjoying it, especially because working within fashion is something completely new to me, so it’s fun to learn all the ropes. I do a lot of merchandising with the featured closets clothes and accessories that come in – anything from tagging to input, organizing, pricing, and listing them online to be bought. It’s cool because I can see everything before the rest of the website (and maybe call some dibs). I also do their social media – scheduling tweets on Twitter and creating and maintaining boards on Pinterest.

BT:  Do you remember what you wore on your first day interning?

AP:  I do I do. I wore a tight Brandy Melville under the knee dress with a denim shirt over it and my white high top converses.

BT: What is your advice to people about dressing for a work environment? What is something you should NEVER wear to the office ?

AP: At least for me, it’s nice to wear something comfortable in the office, not scrubby, but comfortable. I’m either sitting on my computer for hours and hours or climbing a ladder to reach clothes to ship out. I don’t want to wear something that’s going to bother or annoy me when I’m trying to focus. But by all means, I also don’t think you should come to work in yoga pants and Uggs – be cute and put a little effort into what you’re wearing – it shows a lot about who you are!

BT: You have lived in Manhattan, home of some of the most fashionable people in the world, for a few years now. Has city life changed your style?

AP:  Definitely. I think in high school I looked like a plate of hot mess, so I feel like my style now is a complete 180 from that time of my life. Everybody who lives here is completely different from the next, which is awesome, so you form into who you are in a style sense as well. I also like that one day I can dress super cute in floral dresses and lacy booties and look like I just walked out of a prairie and then the next day I can be at a party in Brooklyn wearing a black beanie and combats looking absolute grunge. I like that you have those options everyday.

BT: What is your favorite place in NYC to Party at currently? If we were going there tomorrow night, what would you wear and what would you be sippin’ on?

AP: Bars, preferably anything divey with graffiti over the bathroom walls. But seriously just any bar that’s fun and plays good music. Preferably like good 90’s hits too. Really there’s a bar in Williamsburg called Charleston that plays amazing 90’s hits and they also have a special that you can buy a shot and a beer for 5 dollars. And they have 1 dollar personal pizzas. Like I’m sold. I also am quite favorable to the local bar by school downtown because I love the bartenders and everyone from school is always there. I’m not a club person. I’m probably wearing something that reflects the mood I’m in. And I’m definitely drinking a tequila sour.

BT: Your three favorite stores to shop at are….

AP: I’m not into designer stores at all because I’m poor but the three I shop at most would probably be Brandy Melville, H&M, and Forever21. So typical.

BT: Celebrity closet you would raid “bling ring” style & why.

AP: It used to be Miley but her style is a bit crazy lately. I would definitely say Vanessa Hudgens – Did you see her Coachella outfits – and probably Nicole Richie. They just always look amazing. And you know what I’m just gonna have to say Miley too.  The bitch goes there, she’s one of a kind.

BT: Webster is adding Ariel Pietrobono to the dictionary. What is the definition?

AP: A short human being that makes up for lack of inches with energy, laughter, and colorfulness.

Me, left & Ariel at our senior prom. I wore a BCBG mini which I chose because I knew I could get multiple uses out of it. I would throw a black leather jacket or even a denim vest over it and wear it out to a club. The picture on the right is of us during our freshman year of college, up to no good in the city that NEVER sleeps…

Below is a video from the LIL WAYNE concert we went to, also during our freshman year of college. Told ya she was obsessed !

KINGS OF LEON: MECHANICAL BULL

The title of “My Favorite Band” belongs to Kings of Leon, who just released a new  album called Mechanical Bull. (( The title “My ALL TIME Favorite Band” belongs to Blink — yes there is a diff )). Anyways, Mechanical Bull is the band’s   s i x t h  studio album  II  APPLAUSE  II and it has been long awaited. Their last album, Come Around Sundown, was released in October of 2010 and I remember the time exactly. I was a freshman at FIT  living in Manhattan, a few blocks away from school. The weather was changing, you could feel the pre-winter coolness in the air. On my walks to school every morning, I would shuffle the album and get lost in it as a way to escape the awful feeling of having to go to a three hour class at 9  in the morning. Of course I had my favorite tracks such as “Pickup Truck” and “Pyro” and because my walk only took about 5 minutes I would usually listen to those tracks first and then press shuffle. But Kings of Leon to me is a band that makes albums I really enjoy, not just a few good songs here and there. I really loved walking the streets of NYC with Come Around Sundown blasting through my headphones, so I would sometimes take a longer route to school so I could listen to a few more tracks.

A few years later, my life is very different. I no longer live in Manhattan. I moved back home to Wayne, NJ and now commute to school. My commute can be annoying because I have to drive to the bus stop, take the bus into Port Authority which can take anywhere between 30 minutes and forever depending on traffic, and then from Port Authority I walk about 12 blocks to school. This commute takes a lot longer than the 5 minute walk I made to school when I lived in Manhattan. Even though the extra travel time is a   pain    in     the     ass   — there is one benefit. This time when Kings of Leon released a new album, I had enough time to listen to it in entirety before school, not just a track or two. A few of my favorite tracks off of Mechanical Bull include Rock City, Wait for me,  and Comeback Story. I listen to those tracks twice.
